Rick Owens SS 2011 Limo Sleeveless V-Neck Tunic with Gathered Front IT 38 — photo taken for my Stylezeitgesit Rick Owens sales thread.
This version in viscose, wool, and silk is far superior to the re-release from NASKA SS 2012 which uses viscose/rayon.
I’m wearing this piece, which can serve as a great layering piece or a piece to be worn on its own, with a DRKSDHW poplin cotton jacket with draped front, DRKSHDW cotton long wrap, DRKSDHW spandex leggings (I’ve left the strip hanging from the leggings) and Ann Demeulemeester over-the-knee boots.

I’ll put this in ebay when I have time. (edit: the listing is here.)

The idea behind the vest design is only becomes evident when it is laid flat. The fabric that drapes across the front of the body is from a single continuous piece of cloth. The fabric that composes the vest is important only insofar as it helps to keep the front panel draped in place, as if a scarf. The simple and modest cotton tie that is so central in Demeulemeester’s work in this case allows one to control the length of the “scarf,” and where it hits against the body.
This clever device — the cotton tie — is ubiquitous in her designs. It should never be viewed as an object that limits but rather one that functions to open the space for new possibilities.

—In the spirit of Junya Watanabe’s reworking of Japanese military surplus for his SS 2006 and AW 2006 collections, I reworked this skirt (made for his SS 2006 collection but shown on the AW 2006 runway) into drop crotch shorts with a flared tail.
I’ll feature the skirt, which is a piece of design artwork, in a later post.
